25 Sep Worthy of Words Wednesday 9.25.13 – Foxtail Lovin’, High Line Style!

Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting The High Line in New York City. Actually, pleasure may not be a happy enough word here, but you get the point. I’ll have more in a future blog post on the trip, but today I wanted to share The High Line designer’s most excellent use of Foxtail Grass (Calamagrostis brachytricha).  I was given a couple clumps of this beautiful grass a few years ago by a good friend, but never really used it. I can tell you now, that it will be finding it’s way into my designs in the future. It really is a stunner!

Here are a few photos of it from our trip, including  shot of it’s blooms framing one of the many building lining the High Line!

What are your thoughts on this lovely grass? Is it something you would use in your garden?

I’d love to hear from you!

18 Sep Wordless Wednesday 9.18.13 – An Unexpected winning combination!

I’m not usually a fan of the Dense Spreading Yew as most are sheared into unnatural geometric shapes. But pruned here in this open habit with the chartruese foliage of Sum and Substance Hosta seeming to rise from its center, stopped me in my tracks! A triple winning combination, combining color, contrast, and texture!

Bravo!
