Worthy of Words Wednesday 6.20.12 – Beginnings!

20 Jun Worthy of Words Wednesday 6.20.12 – Beginnings!

A newly planted Honeysuckle Vine (Lonicera sempervirens ‘Major Wheeler’), begins its long display of color on this pergola. In just a few years it will grow up and onto the top, providing a little shade for those that visit, and an abundance of sweet blossoms, that will prove irresistible  to many a hummingbird!

I was also considering this for a pergola but haven’t found any evidence that it will climb high enough. I’d be thrilled to hear of your progress. Thanks! Chris

It only has to go up about 7 feet Chris, so I think it will do fine. The book is 8 – 12 feet, so we’ll see.

My pergola is on a raised deck so it has 3′ plus the 8′ of the pergola (if planted in the ground). I’m hoping it will grow higher (15+) so that it could span the top. Thanks
