BACKYARD ENTERTAINING – GRANBY

Backing up to a large wooded area and a stream, this property in Granby offers privacy and pleasing views. The homeowners asked us to create a place for entertaining and relaxing, along with some protection from the insects that are bothersome during the evening hours.

We rebuilt an existing deck into a screened in porch, for those buggy evenings, and built a new paver patio. The patio is bordered by a stone retaining wall that doubles as a sitting wall, extends away from the patio to a circular area of gravel for a fire pit. An informal bluestone path, interplanted with creeping thyme and surrounded by a garden, connects the patio and fire pit. The hill above the wall is planted to help the area blend into the hillside, featuring two beautiful native plants, Heritage River Birch underplanted with Gro-Low Fragrant Sumac, that surround the fire pit.

The owners now enjoy their yard in all season, whether chilly weather by a warm fire, awash in the mid-summer sun or pest free evenings on the porch.
